Family Day

I am leaving for Neo13 soon and I will be missing my family while I’m gone. I wanted to do something fun for all of us on Saturday. On Thursday I was out at my local track (Fastlane RC) driving my 1/8. Chuck (owner) and I were talking, just about nothing really. He said he was going out to Kansas Speedway for the Grand-Am Rolex race. I’ve not been able to get out to the speedway for a NASCAR race because I’m out of town every year it’s here. They just added a road course in the infield and this is the first race on it. The next day I went out to the track in the early morning to do some more running. I was packing up when Chuck rolled up to the track. He asked if I wanted to have some tickets for the Rolex race on Saturday. He only was going to go for Friday, but he had tickets for the whole weekend. I was pumped!!!!! We looked at tickets online, but we weren’t sure if we wanted to go. Now I had grandstand seats and paddock passes for all 3 of us. Roz was extremely excited to be going to a race track to watch race cars. She loves tracks, and race cars!!! We were off to the speedway at 11am and were ready for a great day.

Tickets in hand, we hopped on a tram and were on our way into the speedway. As we entered the infield the Lamborghini race was getting ready to start. The cars fired up and were warming up around the track. They looked awesome going by, and sounded even better. We weren’t sure how Roz would handle the noise. She LOVED the loud race cars.

We walked around a little a checked out a few different corners we could watch at. It was awesome. We then ate some lunch and went into the pits to get a closer look at the cars. I personally love carbon fiber, and I was in heaven. There was tons of carbon parts on all the cars. Where do I sign up to drive????

After checking out all the cars it was time for the fan walk on pit road. The Continental Tire race was getting ready. That is the race with production based race cars. (still awesome) We got to get out on pit road and get right up next to the cars and drivers.

Roz needed a little rest after all that. Then we headed to the grandstands to get a better view of the track. The race started and the noise was really good up from the stands. The race was good as an amazing sounding and looking Aston Martin took the win. Next we left the track and went to get dinner. We had a couple hours till the Rolex race. Got some great Italian food and headed back to the speedway. We were running a little late and rushed down to the pit road for the fan walk of the Rolex class. Boy were we glad we made it. Those cars are nuts up close.

We all ran back up to the grandstand to get out seats for the final race. These cars roared really loud as they went by. Roz was still loving the cars and the noise. She would clap at all the cars as they flew by at 190mph. The racing was awesome. There were great battles in both Daytona Prototype and GT. The battle for Prototype lasted the entire race and was really close on the last lap. It was a great ending to the perfect family day. Roz couldn’t quite handle all the excitement during the final race. Haha.

  1. What a great family day! Roz just needs a pair of Hello Kitty earplugs and a red Kyosho drivers suit! Beautiful family you have.
